You could set your character to fish lobsters and you'd gain XP and Lobsters at normal runescape rates until you told it to do something else, You could tell it to kill green dragons and you'd gain bones/hides/herbs/etc and XP at normal runescape rates. You'd be able to see/change your gear, and see your bank/inventory/stats using the same or similar graphics as you would in game, rather than being text based, but all of the training would be automated. I was working on an entirely simulation based oldschool runescape mobile game where you'd essentially just tell your character what to do and he'd do that until you told him to do something else, even if you closed the app. This is really cool, reminds me somewhat of a project I had been working on. Cool Kids had their autowalker built into their combat system so it would know better. If you had a bad autowalker, getting ganked on your way someplace would be an issue because it would tie up your balance and stupidly try to continue walking you places. Aside from actually calculating the course, it would tie into your walking balance that dictates how quickly you can walk without stumbling/stopping. The autowalker would then be fed an ID, it would plot the course and begin walking you there. It was then stored in ephemeral memory in a clear affront to any sense of memory management. This was then abstracted into a (sometimes massive) map. The mapper kept a hash of every room you mapped in the game, ID'd them, and noted their adjacent rooms. For large scale movement, though, you had two components a mapper, and an autowalker. Normally you'd have your directions bound to your numpad if you didn't have those bound for abilities already. I also had a compass that lit up the direction that were available to me, though a lot of hardcore users specifically avoided such a thing. I had a dash that would light up UI elements if I had certain debilitating status ailments. ![]() I know you're joking but a lot of people did. Anti-cheating was as rudimentary as the botting process itself - one of the Imms (Immortals/Gods/whatever your MUD called them - basically the GMs or whoever owned the server) would whisper you and if you didnt respond, they knew you werent at the keyboard playing and would punish you. 11-year-old-me thought I was hot shit for figuring this out.Īny "AFK playing" or botting of any kind, regardless of how simple, was generally against the rules (or allowed only in a specific place for a specific purpose). Break the loop by manually tossing in an extra command, like "east" to walk east and be in a different room with a description that wouldnt trigger the loop. So you could create a loop by having a macro that is triggered by something from the description of a command like "look", and then have the macro end with the "look" command to restart the loop. Most of the clients I used to play MUDs back in the day came with simple built-in macro customizers and input analysers. This one will earn you a ban.īasically, yes.
